Bridie Poole, RIP

On behalf of the school community at Saint Luke's National School, Tyrrelstown, formerly Mulhuddart National School (aka The Village School !), I wish to offer our sincere condolences to Johnny Poole & family on the passing of Bridie Poole. Bridie worked in the school in Mulhuddart Village for many many years and was loved by children and staff alike. She worked as our lollipop lady and cleaner for roughly 20 years. Bridie always watched out for the children and took an active interest in their welfare and safety. Bridie always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye and she had a great way of telling a story. Bridie was sorely missed when she retired from the school.Please remember her in your prayers and ask the children to remember her in their prayers. May she rest in peace.

Dear Parents

 

Thank you for your co-operation over these past few weeks. The children are very good at coming to and going from school now and everything is settling down. We are now able to change the start and finish times a little and make everything more streamlined.

 

From Monday Sept 14th the start and finish times for pupils will be as follows:

 

Junior infants: 9am - 1:40pm

Senior infants: 9am -1:40pm

 

Parents may come into the front yard to collect their child. Please wear a face covering.


 

1st class: 9am -2:30pm

2nd class: 9am - 2:30pm

 

Parents may stand outside the school gates and collect child from there. Older siblings may collect child from their teacher when they come out from their class at 2:40pm. Children will remain with teacher until parent or sibling arrives to collect. Please wear a face covering.

 


 

3rd class: 9:10am- 2:40pm

4th class: 9:10am - 2:40pm

5th class: 9:10am - 2:40pm

6th class: 9:10am - 2:40pm

 

Siblings may come at the earlier time of 9am if they need to bring a younger sibling to school. All pupils will be dismissed at front gate at 2:40pm and are free to walk home.

We are in the process of getting new school crests made and they will be available from the school office at the end of the month. We have really enjoyed welcoming everyone back to St. Luke's NS.

We are asking parents to please wear a face covering whilst they are on the school campus as it is not possible to keep 2m distance at all times particularly during collection times.

Please note that Aladdin Connect is the main mode of communication for the staff and parents in the school community. Please ensure that you have downloaded the Aladdin Connect app and that you have an access code so that you can see your child's school details. If you are having trouble with Aladdin Connect please contact me directly on infostlukesns@gmail.com and I will try to help you ASAP.

The SET team have asked me to remind you that they will be working in each classroom and pupils may be called to the back of the classroom to work one to one with the SET teacher at their workstation during the school day.

Covid logistics plan for St. Luke’s NS

 

 

Underlying Principles

  • The school has a responsibility to make every effort to ensure the safety, health and well-being of all members of our school community – children, parents and staff. This plan has been formulated to ensure that the school can exercise that duty of care.

 

  • In keeping with public health advice and guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Skills, it is preferable for all children to return to school for all five days of the school week and for a full school day. This plan has been formulated to achieve that aim.

 

  • It is not possible to eliminate the risk of infection. However, with the co-operation of all members of our school community, it is possible to minimise the risk of the virus being introduced to school and the consequent risk of its spread.

 

  • As well as co-operation, the flexibility and goodwill of all will be required to ensure the plan can be implemented.

 

Assumptions

  • All children return to school and classes operate within a bubble system

 

  • The school is split into stream groups with each stream group having different starting times, break times, lunch times and finishing times.

 

  • Stream groups will be constituted of class streams from Junior infants to 6th class.

 

  • The day will include 1 x 10 minute break and 1 x 30 minute break in the classroom and 1 x 30 minute break outside.

 

  • Within each class from 3rd to 6th, the children will be further divided into pods, with a minimum distance of 1 metre being maintained between pods.

 

  • Hand sanitiser will be available at all entry points and in all class and support rooms

 

  • Each classroom will have soap, paper towels and hand sanitiser.

 

  • Classrooms will be ventilated leaving windows and doors open when necessary to create airflow and air change within the room. Children may leave their jackets on or wear a heavy jumper during the school day if they are cold.

 

  • All staff will be encouraged to wear visors or face coverings.

 

  • All parents should wear face coverings when they are on the school campus as it is not possible to keep 2m distance during collection times.

 

  • Floor markings, signage and sanitiser will be placed throughout the building.

 

  • Perspex will be placed at the secretary’s office.

 

  • A one way system will operate throughout the school.

 

  • Lunches will be taken in class streams. Each class will take half hour outside per day. One class will be allowed to play on each basketball court.

 

  • All meetings with parents will be held on Zoom or over the phone.

 

  • Handwashing will occur at regular intervals throughout the day for everyone. 

 

  • Our goal is to keep the school safely open for everyone. Parents and staff will need to cooperate at all times and follow the health and safety guidelines.

 

Timetables

Children from 3rd class to 6th class are allowed to walk home alone after school.

6th class 9am – 2:40pm.

5th class 9:05am - 2:40pm

4th  class 9:10am - 2:35pm

3rd class 9:15am - 2:35pm

 

2nd class 9:20am- 2:30pm dismiss from yard. Parents wait at a 2m distance outside school gate.

Parents must wear a face mask on the school campus.

 

In the morning,teachers will be in the classrooms waiting to supervise from 9am. If your child has older siblings they may come to school at the earlier time slot in the mornings.

 

At going home time if older siblings are to collect younger siblings at 2:40pm, the younger sibling will wait with their teacher until the older sibling is ready to collect them.

 

These staggered arrival and dismissal times will remain in place for each class (except Junior infants) until the end of September when they will then be reviewed.

Arrival at school

  • Each stream group should aim to arrive at the school in the 2 minutes immediately preceding their start time
  • We ask for co-operation with these times as it will mean that the numbers congregating on school grounds at any one time will be minimised.
  • Each class should go straight into their classroom through the main front door at the appropriate time.
  • No adults, other than staff members, should enter the building.
  • Messages for teachers can be sent by email, Aladdin Connect or by phoning the school office.

 

End of School Day

  • When the school day for each class is over the following arrangements will apply –
    • Junior infants: For the first few days, class teachers will bring pupils to the front yard at dismissal time. Parents are asked to stay outside the front gates and to keep a 2m distance from staff at all times. We will allow parents to collect their child in small groups.
    • Senior Infants – 2nd Class: The class teacher will bring the children to the front gate and will release the children into the care of the adult who is there to collect them. Adults, who are collecting their children from Senior infants to 2nd class at the end of the day, should wait at the front gates keeping 2m distance apart from each other and from staff.
    • 3rd – 6th Class: The class teacher will dismiss their class from the school yard and if necessary they can make arrangements to meet parents/carers outside of the school grounds. No parents will be allowed to enter the school grounds for the 2:40pm dismissal.

 

Collection of Children during the School Day

If an adult has to collect a child during the course of the school day, the following arrangements will apply

  • When the adult arrives at the school, they should either phone the office or use the intercom at the front door of the school to alert the office that they have arrived 01-8856015
  • The child will be brought from their class to the adult by a member of staff
  • No adult should enter the school building, unless invited to do so

 

Dealing with a suspected case of Covid-19

Pupils should not attend school if displaying any symptoms of Covid-19. If a pupil displays symptoms of Covid-19 while in the building, the following procedures will be implemented:

  • Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately
  • The child will be accompanied to the designated isolation area via the isolation route by a member of staff. The staff member will remain at least 2 metres away from the symptomatic child and will also make sure that others maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from the symptomatic child at all times
  • A mask will be provided for the child presenting with symptoms. He/she should wear the mask if in a common area with other people or while exiting the premises.
  • An assessment will be made as to whether the child who is displaying symptoms can immediately be brought home by parents and call their doctor and continue self-isolation at home.
  • The school will facilitate the child presenting with symptoms to remain in isolation, if they cannot immediately go home.
  • The child presenting with symptoms should be advised to cover their mouth and nose with the disposable tissue provided when they cough or sneeze and to put the tissue in the waste bag provided.
  • If the child is well enough to go home, the school will arrange for them to be transported home by a family member, as soon as possible, and advise them to inform their GP by phone of their symptoms. Public transport of any kind should not be used.
  • If they are too unwell to go home or advice is required, the school will contact 999 or 112 and inform them that the sick child is a Covid-19 suspect.
  • Arrangements will be made for appropriate cleaning of the isolation area and work areas involved.

 

The HSE will inform any staff/parents who have come into close contact with a diagnosed case via the contact tracing process. The HSE will contact all relevant persons where a diagnosis of COVID-19 is made. The instructions of the HSE should be followed.

 

Children who should not attend school

If your child is in one of the following categories, they should not attend school –

  • Children who are currently diagnosed with Covid-19
  • Children who have been in close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with Covid-19
  • Children who have a suspected case of Covid-19 and the outcome of the test is pending
  • Children who have been in contact with a person who has a suspected case of Covid-19 and the outcome of the test is pending
  • Children with underlying health conditions who have been directed by a medical professional not to attend school
  • Children who have returned home after travelling abroad and must self-isolate for a period of 14 days
  • Children who are generally unwell

 

Supporting the Learning of Children who cannot attend school

If a child is not able to attend school for an extended period of time, the class teacher (and/or the learning support teacher, where relevant) will suggest activities to support the child’s learning at home. These will be shared with parents.

 

Impact of a Suspected or Confirmed Case of Covid-19 in a Class

If the school is notified that a person in your child’s class has a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19

  • Public health advice will be sought and followed

 

Personal Equipment

  • In so far as possible, it is requested that children from Senior infants to 6th Class will bring their own pens, pencils, colours, rubbers, etc., to school in their own pencil case to avoid the sharing of equipment.
  • It is further requested that all items have the child’s name on them for ease of identification.
  • For children in Junior Infants, the school will provide a pouch or container which will hold each child’s pencils, crayons, etc., and which will be labelled with their name.
  • All children should bring a hand towel to school for the drying of hands after handwashing. It can be kept in a zip lock bag and brought home to be washed each day (60 degree wash). Paper towels will also be provided in each classroom.
  • Children must bring their own lunch box and drinks bottle. Please label all items with the child’s name. Children will not be allowed to share lunches or drinks with other children. Please ensure that your child can open and close their lunch box and drinks bottle on their own. Please wash the lunch box and drinks bottle each evening in warm soapy water.
  • For the foreseeable future, should they wish, all children can wear the school navy tracksuit from Monday to Friday. The tracksuits should be kept for school only and should be washed regularly as children will be following cough and sneeze etiquette into the elbow of their school jumper during the school day. School crests will be available at the end of September in the school office but they are not essential at this time. Please label all uniform items with your child’s name. For younger children shoes should be easy to open and close (eg Velcro) as the tying of laces by staff is not permitted due to the social distancing guidelines. Children should also be able to open and close their own jackets.

 

Shared Equipment

By necessity, some classroom equipment needs to be shared including tablets, laptops and the equipment used for structured activities and play in Infant classrooms. Cleaning of such shared equipment with wipes or other cleaning products will take place at regular intervals to minimise the risk of the spread of infection.

 

School cleaning

In line with HSE and DES guidelines we have increased our cleaning schedule and resources this year. We have invested in hiring new cleaning staff and new cleaning equipment. We follow a strict cleaning regime and schedule and follow all cleaning guidelines from the HSE and DES.

 

We sanitise the building regularly throughout the day. All common area items including door handles, light switches, stair rails, commonly touched items, corridors etc are cleaned regularly throughout the day. Each classroom is fully cleaned once per day once pupils leave the building. Classroom items are kept to a minimum to facilitate the cleaning each evening. Chairs, tables, shelves, ledges, surfaces etc are disinfected each evening. All bathrooms are cleaned and disinfected each evening. The floors are swept, hoovered and mopped each evening. Santisier, hand soap and paper towels are replenished in each room each evening.

 

 

Yards

Each bubble of class streams have access to the yards during their allotted break times.

Yards are supervised by class teachers, learning support teachers and SNA’s working within those bubbles.

 

Learning Support

In keeping with our Special Education policy, learning support is provided by a blended approach of in-class support and withdrawal. The provision of support is organised to ensure our support teachers work within the confines of a bubble.

  • Where a support teacher is working alongside a class teacher in a classroom, both teachers must be mindful of maintaining social distance from one another.
  • Where children from 3rd to 6th Class receive support in one of the SET rooms, social distancing of 1 metre will be maintained between each child in the group.
  • The tables and chairs in SET rooms are wiped clean in between different groups attending and all used SET rooms are fully cleaned each evening.

 

PPE

PPE will be worn by staff in general. Staff who are attending to particular care needs or who are administering first aid will wear appropriate PPE including gloves, aprons and face masks.

 

Teacher Absence and Substitution

In the event that teacher is unable to attend school, every effort will be made to secure a substitute teacher for the class. If a substitute teacher is not available, it is not appropriate for the class to be divided into groups and accommodated in other classes. In such circumstances, it may not be possible for the class to attend on that day. If that is the case, as much notice as possible will be given to parents.

 

PE

Where possible, PE should take place outdoors and use of equipment should be confined to the sets that have been distributed to class groupings. If the PE hall is being used by class groupings, common touch points should be cleaned at intervals throughout the school day.

 

Extra-curricular Activities

The possibility of facilitating extra-curricular activities will be explored. However, it is not recommended that children from different bubbles participate in extra-curricular activities at the same time. The staggered finishing times and increased demands of everyday cleaning will also make the scheduling of after-school activities problematic. Further updates will be provided in September.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2020

ST. LUKE’S NS

 

The celebration of First Holy Communion will be Saturday 26 September.

To accommodate all the boys and girls who will be receiving First Holy Communion and adhere to public health guidelines, it will be necessary to have four (4) ceremonies. 

Ceremonies will be conducted as follows:

9.30am - Ms Burkes 2nd class from last year 

11.00am - Ms Quinns 2nd class from last year 

12.30pm – Ms Flanagan’s 2nd class from last year 

2.00pmMs Yeates 2nd class from last year 

In order to respect the health and safety of everyone involved, the capacity of the church is greatly reduced.  As a result, three (3) people only may accompany those receiving First Holy Communion.  Unfortunately, others will be required to remain outside.  It is important that those attending our church for whatever ceremony, at all times feel safe and protect themselves and others from Covid-19.

In order to observe social distancing, movement within the church will be kept to a minimum.  Those wishing to receive Holy Communion, including the First Holy Communicants will remain in their seats and Communion will be brought to them.

It would be greatly appreciated if all adults wore a face covering, as one is obliged to in shops and on public transport. 

Unfortunately, photographs will not be permitted in the church after the ceremony, as social distancing must be observed.

 Following the ceremony, the church will be sanitised in preparation for the next ceremony.  All personnel will be asked to leave immediately to facilitate the team of cleaners.

Everyone entering the church is obliged to use the hand sanitisers.  Entrance will be through the main door only and exit by the side doors.

 The lack of involvement by the boys and girls in the ceremony is unfortunate, but we are severely restricted by the guidelines as outlined by the Health Authority.

We in the parish will do everything we can to ensure that the First Holy Communion ceremony is meaningful and dignified and all who attend feel safe and protected.

May it be a day of great joy and blessing for the boys and girls from St. Luke’s NS.

The arrival and dismissal times will change after week one and parents will be informed of the new schedule when the school opens.

 

If siblings must arrive at the same time teachers will be in the classrooms waiting to supervise those who arrive at an earlier time slot. If older siblings are to collect younger siblings at 2:40pm, the younger sibling will wait with their teacher until the older sibling is ready to collect them.

Adults, who are collecting their children from Senior infants to 2nd class at the end of the day, should wait at the fence on the back of the yard keeping 2m distance apart from each other and from staff.
    • 3rd – 6th Class: The class teacher will allow each pod to leave the yard separately in order to minimise contact. Children from 3rd to 6th class will be dismissed from the school yard and if necessary they can make arrangements to meet parents/carers outside of the school grounds. No parents will be allowed to enter the school grounds for the 2:40pm dismissal.

  • The child will be accompanied to the designated isolation area via the isolation route by a member of staff. The staff member will remain at least 2 metres away from the symptomatic child and will also make sure that others maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from the symptomatic child at all times
  • A mask will be provided for the child presenting with symptoms. He/she should wear the mask if in a common area with other people or while exiting the premises.
  • An assessment will be made as to whether the child who is displaying symptoms can immediately be brought home by parents and call their doctor and continue self-isolation at home.
  • The school will facilitate the child presenting with symptoms to remain in isolation, if they cannot immediately go home.
  • The child presenting with symptoms should be advised to cover their mouth and nose with the disposable tissue provided when they cough or sneeze and to put the tissue in the waste bag provided.
  • If the child is well enough to go home, the school will arrange for them to be transported home by a family member, as soon as possible, and advise them to inform their GP by phone of their symptoms. Public transport of any kind should not be used.
  • If they are too unwell to go home or advice is required, the school will contact 999 or 112 and inform them that the sick child is a Covid-19 suspect.
  • Arrangements will be made for appropriate cleaning of the isolation area and work areas involved.

 

The HSE will inform any staff/parents who have come into close contact with a diagnosed case via the contact tracing process. The HSE will contact all relevant persons where a diagnosis of COVID-19 is made. The instructions of the HSE should be followed.

 

Children who should not attend school

If your child is in one of the following categories, they should not attend school –

  • Children who are currently diagnosed with Covid-19
  • Children who have been in close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with Covid-19
  • Children who have a suspected case of Covid-19 and the outcome of the test is pending
  • Children who have been in contact with a person who has a suspected case of Covid-19 and the outcome of the test is pending
  • Children with underlying health conditions who have been directed by a medical professional not to attend school
  • Children who have returned home after travelling abroad and must self-isolate for a period of 14 days
  • Children who are generally unwell

 

Supporting the Learning of Children who cannot attend school

If a child is not able to attend school for an extended period of time, the class teacher (and/or the learning support teacher, where relevant) will suggest activities to support the child’s learning at home. These will be shared with parents.

 

Impact of a Suspected or Confirmed Case of Covid-19 in a Class

If the school is notified that a person in your child’s class has a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19

  • The parents of all children in the class will be notified
  • Public health advice will be sought and followed

 

Personal Equipment

  • In so far as possible, it is requested that children from Senior infants to 6th Class will bring their own pens, pencils, colours, rubbers, etc., to school in their own pencil case to avoid the sharing of equipment.
  • It is further requested that all items have the child’s name on them for ease of identification.
  • For children in Junior Infants, the school will provide a pouch or container which will hold each child’s pencils, crayons, etc., and which will be labelled with their name.
  • All children should bring a hand towel to school for the drying of hands after handwashing. It can be kept in a zip lock bag and brought home to be washed each day (60 degree wash). Paper towels will also be provided in each classroom.
  • Children must bring their own lunch box and drinks bottle. Please label all items with the child’s name. Children will not be allowed to share lunches or drinks with other children. Please ensure that your child can open and close their lunch box and drinks bottle on their own. Please wash the lunch box and drinks bottle each evening in warm soapy water.
  • For the foreseeable future, should they wish, all children can wear the school navy tracksuit from Monday to Friday. The tracksuits should be kept for school only and should be washed regularly as children will be following cough and sneeze etiquette into the elbow of their school jumper during the school day. School crests will be available in September in the school office but they are not essential at this time. Please label all uniform items with your child’s name. For younger children shoes should be easy to open and close (eg Velcro) as the tying of laces by staff is not permitted due to the social distancing guidelines. Children should also be able to open and close their own jackets.

 

Shared Equipment

By necessity, some classroom equipment needs to be shared including tablets, laptops and the equipment used for structured activities and play in Infant classrooms. Cleaning of such shared equipment with wipes or other cleaning products will take place at regular intervals to minimise the risk of the spread of infection.

 

School cleaning

In line with HSE and DES guidelines we are increasing our cleaning schedule and resources this year. We have invested in hiring new cleaning staff and new cleaning equipment. We will be following a strict cleaning regime and schedule and following all cleaning guidelines from the HSE and DES.

 

Before school starts next week, we will have deep cleaned the entire building. The water has been tested and the water system has been cleansed, disinfected and flushed through.

 

We have increased our daily cleaning schedule for this school year. We will have 3 cleaners working in the school this year. They will sanitise the building regularly throughout the day. All common area items including door handles, light switches, stair rails, commonly touched items, corridors etc will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Each classroom will be fully cleaned once per day once pupils leave the building. Classroom items will be kept to a minimum to facilitate the cleaning each evening. Chairs, tables, shelves, ledges, surfaces etc will be disinfected each evening. All bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected each evening. The floors will be swept, hoovered and mopped each evening. Santisier, hand soap and paper towels will be replenished in each room each evening.

 

 

Yards

Each bubble of class streams will have access to the yards during their allotted break times.

Yards will be supervised by class teachers, learning support teachers and SNA’s working within those bubbles.

 

Learning Support

In keeping with our Special Education policy, learning support will be provided by a blended approach of in-class support and withdrawal. The provision of support will be organised to ensure our support teachers will work within the confines of a bubble.

  • Where a support teacher is working alongside a class teacher in a classroom, both teachers must be mindful of maintaining social distance from one another.
  • Where children from 3rd to 6th Class receive support in one of the SET rooms, social distancing of 1 metre will be maintained between each child in the group.
  • The tables and chairs in SET rooms will be wiped clean in between different groups attending and all used SET rooms will be fully cleaned each evening.

 

PPE

PPE will be worn by staff in general. Staff who are attending to particular care needs or who are administering first aid will wear appropriate PPE including gloves, aprons and face masks.

 

Teacher Absence and Substitution

In the event that teacher is unable to attend school, every effort will be made to secure a substitute teacher for the class. If a substitute teacher is not available, it is not appropriate for the class to be divided into groups and accommodated in other classes. In such circumstances, it may not be possible for the class to attend on that day. If that is the case, as much notice as possible will be given to parents.

 

PE

Where possible, PE should take place outdoors and use of equipment should be confined to the sets that have been distributed to class groupings. If the PE hall is being used by class groupings, common touch points should be cleaned at intervals throughout the school day.

 

Extra-curricular Activities

The possibility of facilitating extra-curricular activities will be explored. However, it is not recommended that children from different bubbles participate in extra-curricular activities at the same time. The staggered finishing times and increased demands of everyday cleaning will also make the scheduling of after-school activities problematic. Further updates will be provided in September.

We have been very busy preparing the school for the safe return of pupils and staff in line with DES and HSE guidelines. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again.

 

Please find here the proposed schedule for opening the school. Please note that the school will open on a staggered basis with different start days and times for each class stream. We will continue with this staggered approach until we feel that the school is under good health and safety control for everyone and we hope that we will return to normal opening and closing times as soon as possible.

Please note:  Your child will continue to come into school each day once they start school. We are adding the classes in one stream at a time for health and safety reasons. For example if your child is in 3rd class, they will start on Monday 31st August and then come to school every day after that. Their start time will be 9:15 every day after that and their end time will be 2:35pm. Please follow the date and times for your particular class stream.

Thursday 3rd Sept: Senior infants return at 9:30am. 1:40pm dismiss from yard. Parents wait at a 2m distance along back yard fence.

 

Friday 4th Sept:  Junior infants start at 10am. Parents line up in the front yard at 2m distance with their child. Parents must wear a face mask as they drop their child to the classroom and leave ASAP. Children will be dismissed at 11:30am. Children will be brought to parents in the front yard. Parents must keep a 2m distance from staff.

 

If siblings must arrive at the same time teachers will be in the classrooms waiting to supervise those who arrive at an earlier time slot. If older siblings are to collect younger siblings at 2:40pm, the younger sibling will wait with their teacher until the older sibling is ready to collect them.


 
School Reopening Plan and Covid Policy

Dear Parents and Pupils

 

We hope you are all well.

 

We have been very busy preparing the school for the safe return of pupils and staff in line with DES and HSE guidelines. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

 

The Board of Management are working on the details of school return plan. We are almost ready to publish everything but we are waiting a little longer to see if there is any further information from the government in terms of the schools reopening. Our Covid 19 policy is available to view on our website.

 

We will publish a comprehensive plan over the coming days in terms of opening times and collection times and specific details about the classroom setup etc.

 

If you have had any difficulty getting books from suppliers, please try not to worry. There is still plenty of time to order these things and if they are a little late that is no problem. The teacher will not mind. We understand how difficult everything has been this year.

 

In terms of the school uniform, the navy tracksuit and white polo tshirt are available in most large stores. Again, if you have trouble purchasing the uniform please try not to worry about it. Once your child is comfortable and warm at school that is really all that matters for now.

Covid-19 , Multilingual Advice

Covid 19 World Service is a joint initiative of Nasc and Together Ireland. Over 30 doctors, and other healthcare professionals, from around the world, but living and working in Ireland, have voiced the video messages for this new Covid-19 World Service Initiative aimed at providing up-to-date and accurate public health information to migrants living in Ireland. This page will be updated regularly with new videos.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

Dear Parents and candidates,

 

As we look forward to the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 20 August, it is important to remember that the guidelines as outlined by the public health authority continue to be implemented.  In order to respect the health and safety of everyone involved, the capacity of our church is greatly reduced. 

 

Unlike previous years, when all candidates were Confirmed during one ceremony, this year there will be three (3) ceremonies: 10.00am., 12.00noon & 2.00pm.  Each candidate will be permitted to bring three (3) people – sponsor, parents/guardian.

 

Ms. Bourke will be in contact with you requesting the CONFIRMATION NAME the candidates have chosen.  You will also be informed of the time of the ceremony at which you should attend.

 

It is important that candidates bring with them a CANDLE, as the Ceremony of Light will be part of the Confirmation ceremony.

 

Colette and I look forward to meeting you all on Thursday 20 August to celebrate this important event and be enriched by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Summer Holidays and Return to School August 2020

Dear Parents

 

I hope you are all well.

 

I wish to thank you all for your support over these past few months. We have really missed you all and we are really looking forward to getting back to school in August 2020.

 

I wish to thank all of the pupils who have worked so hard since the lockdown and have kept their spirits up despite everything that has been going on around them.

 

Thank you to our staff who have worked so hard to keep everything going during this difficult time.

 

We are planning for the return to school at the moment as if everything is returning to near normal conditions at the school. We still await further advice and guidance from the Department of Education on school re-opening procedures. We are also aware that things can change on a day to day basis and we will keep you up to date if anything should change in terms of government advice.

 

What you will need to know for the return to school are the following:

  • School uniforms are available in the usual stores eg Dunnes, Lidl, Primark, Marks and Spencers. We use the navy tracksuit and white polo tshirt for PE days and the grey skirt or trousers with white polo tshirt and navy tracksuit jumper for normal school days. School crests will be available to buy in the school office when school re-opens in late August.

 

  

  •  School books are available to purchase online at many different online stores such as Eason.ie and schoolbooks.ie.
  • The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Thursday August 20th 2020. More details to follow. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will take place on Saturday 26th September 2020. More details to follow. At this point it looks like there will be up to 3 different services on each day. Each family will have one bench in the Church which can hold up to 6 people. Please read Monsignor Thynne’s message from yesterday for more information. It is on our website. We will send you a message if there is any further news.
  • School will reopen on Wednesday August 26th 2020 at 9am. Classes will run for the full day. School starts at 9am and ends at 1:40pm for Senior infants and at 2:40pm for 1st class to 6th class.
  • New Junior Infants will start on Friday August 28th and have been given their own timetable.

Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation Message from Monsignor Thynne

THE SACRAMENTS OF HOLY COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION

 

The re-opening of our churches is a new beginning and is welcomed by people of faith.  During the lockdown, many religious events had to be cancelled or postponed.  We are now in a position to plan for the future. 

 

The proposed date to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation is Thursday 20th August. 


The proposed date to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion is Saturday 26th September.

 

It is important to remember that our experience of Mass and all liturgical events will be quite different as the guidelines set out by the public health authority are implemented.  Different ways in which the Sacraments can be celebrated that respect the health and safety of all involved are being examined. The Covid-19 virus means we have to learn new ways of being together in Church to ensure the comfort and safety of everyone.

 

Just as Ms. Bourke awaits government advice and guidelines on the return to school after the summer break, here in the parish we also await government advice that will further ease restrictions and hopefully, increase the capacity of our church. 

 

Let us now look forward to celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 20 August with the boys and girls who have graduated from St. Luke’s NS.  Having graduated on 24 June in a simplified and meaningful ceremony, may they come together again to be enriched by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Back to School 2020

Dear Parents

 

We hope that you and your families are all keeping well.

 

We await government advice and guidelines on the return to school after the Summer break. As soon as we receive any news we will contact you all straight away.

 

The good news today about the lifting of some restrictions gives some optimism that the return to school should be able to take place in late August or September if the virus remains contained. No matter what happens over the Summer the return to school may look a little different to what we are used to. When we receive any further updates from the DES and government we will contact you in relation to opening dates and times.

 

In the meantime, a number of parents want to know if they should go ahead and purchase books/uniforms etc. We would advise that you should go ahead as normal and purchase the school uniform if you need to. The navy tracksuits, white tee shirts and grey trousers or skirts should all be available in the coming weeks in the larger retail outlets.

 

The school crest will be available to purchase from the school office when we re-open after the Summer holidays.

 

We are still finalising the booklists and we hope to have them up on our website in the next two weeks. 

 

The school reports will hopefully be posted out to homes by the middle of next week.

New Junior Infants 2020

Dear Parents

 

I hope you are all keeping well.

 

We have received no government guidelines yet on when or how we can re open the schools. As soon as we hear anything we will contact you straight away.

 

The news of restrictions easing across the country today is good news, and as a nation we seem to be moving in the right direction. I am optimistic that the new school year will be able to go ahead as planned but may look a little different than what we are used to in the past.

 

Some parents have queries in relation to the school requirements for the new school year:

 

Book money can be paid when the office re opens in August or September. We will notify you when this is possible.

 

School crests can also be purchased when the office re opens.

 

If your child has Special Educational Needs and you are waiting on news about SNA access - we have been told by the NCSE that we will keep our current SNA quota and this should be adequate to cater for the needs of all of the pupils with Special Educational Needs in our school. If we discover that more help is required, we will do a whole school review of our SNA allocation in October in conjunction with the NCSE.

Collection of School Books

Collection of Books


-   It is really important that you collect your child’s books and materials as they will need them for the continued learning activities.

 

-   You will receive your allotted time for book collection via text from Ms Bourke. Do not share this time with anyone else – this is your time slot only. If you did not receive a text you cannot come to collect the books.

 

-   Your child’s books will not be available during other time slots.

 

-   Collection of sibling’s books will be done at the time of the youngest sibling which is the earliest time. 

 

-   Do not bring children to the school – only one person per household can attend.

 

-   We will be operating a one way system in the car park. Please park your car safely and do not linger to socialise with anyone else. Then exit the car park as soon as you have your books.

 

-    If possible we would prefer if you could walk to the school.

 

-    The side gate into Tyrrelstown Park will be open on the day.

 

-    There will be 2 metre social distancing markers on site that you must observe at all times – please follow the directions of staff members on site.

 

-    The books will be available for collection outside the front door of the school building -no other parts of the school building will be accessible.

 

-    Please do not come to the school if you have ANY symptoms of Covid-19, if you have been advised to self-isolate, if you have travelled abroad in the past 14 days or if you have been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19.

 

-    While we would love if this could be an opportunity to have a chat and catch up with you, this is not possible in the current circumstances and this process must be completed as safely and as efficiently as possible. We look forward to seeing you.

Different Families, Same Love Competition

The INTO LGBT+ Teachers’ Group are delighted to announce a revised format of the Different Families, Same Love competition to accommodate those learning from home.

The new format includes tailor-made resources that allow pupils to explore the topic and create their own projects from within the comfort of their own homes.

To mark the upcoming International Family Equality Day (IFED) and International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) we are asking children to unleash their creativity and celebrate the diversity of people and families in Ireland.
