Trócaire Lenten Campaign 9th February 2015 Dear Parents, St. Luke’s National School participation in the Trócaire Box Lenten Campaign has been a growing success story during the last three years. In three years you have doubled your contribution to a most worthy cause. Academic Year | Collection | 2011 - 2012 | €401.19 | 2012 - 2013 | €684.61 | 2013 - 2014 | €949.67 | Many thanks to everyone, who has returned their Trócaire Box, to the school last year. Your generous support for the Trocaire Lenten Campaign helps the very needy people in the world. This year Trócaire will be giving support to the needy people in Ethiopia. The money goes towards the development of a sustainable environment in Ethiopia. We hope to be as successful this year, 2014-2015, in our Trócaire Lenten Campaign. It would be great to top the €1000 mark this year. I would request that you keep the Trócaire Box visible in your house and talk to the children about the most worthy causes involved in the work of Trócaire. Please review the leaflet that accompanies the Trócaire Lenten Box. Please return your Trócaire Lenten Campaign Box to school, as soon as possible after Easter, and at the latest by Friday 24th April 2015. Children's Rights Alliance and UNICEF |
(241) Thursday, February 5, 2015 |
n January 2016, the United Nations (UN) will examine Ireland’s record on children’s rights. The examination is being carried out by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, a group of 18 experts who meet in Geneva, Switzerland. They will focus an international spotlight on Ireland. Previous examinations have led to significant improvements for children and young people. The Irish Government submitted its report to the UN Committee in September 2013 setting out what they have done under the convention since 2006. To inform its work, the Committee accepts reports, known as ‘Parallel Reports’, from Non Government Organisation groups. The Children’s Rights Alliance – the national umbrella organisation for over 100 members – submits an independent report on behalf of its membership and NGO’s together with a report created by children and young people. These reports provide the committee with independent material on what is happening on the ground for children and young people in Ireland. As part of this process the Children’s Rights Alliance and UNICEF are preparing a report to send to the United Nations in March to tell them what life in Ireland is like for children in Ireland. The report is being prepared by a group of children and young people and we would be really grateful if you could ask your child to share their views and experiences by answering the questions a survey which can be accessed by clicking this link What is it like to be a child in Ireland? |

Parent Teacher Meetings |
(240) Thursday, February 5, 2015 |
Saint Luke’s National School Parent Teacher Meetings Reminder 5th February 2015 Dear Parents, As per our invitations, Parent Teacher meetings take place on Monday 9th& Tuesday 10th 2015. The parent teacher meeting is fundamental to your child’s holistic development. Working together, as a team, on your child’s behalf will benefit your child. I implore each parent/guardian to attend their child’s meeting. Please attend the meeting at the designated time – all meeting times have been designated, therefore attendance at any other time on the allocated day is not possible. Please collect your child promptly at the designated times, indicated below, on Monday & Tuesday as punctual collection of the children will ensure that maximum benefit can be derived from the meeting allowing the teachers to attend on time. Assessment is a part of teaching and learning. As part of the assessment procedure in the school, teachers carry out a series of informal and formal assessments. Standardised Tests are a form of formal testing. When a teacher assesses a child they look holistically at the child- standardised tests are just one measure of one aspect of their learning. At the Parent / Teacher meeting the teacher will outline a summary of the assessments in relation to your child. Each teacher will provide you with an information sheet on standardised testing, where applicable, – from which you can gain further insight on testing. Please update your child’s Contact Information Details, with the class teacher, on the day of the meeting. Please pay any outstanding money to the class teacher. I look forward to renewing your acquaintance over the two days of the parent teacher meetings and as with last year I plan to attend some of the meetings Is Mise Le Meas, _____________________ Mairtín Ó Caomhánaigh Príomhoide Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th Closing Times Junior Infants, Seniors Infants 1.25p.m. First Class – Sixth Class 2.25p.m |
