First Holy Communion
(233) Tuesday, January 27, 2015

First Holy Communion

Dear Parents,

The First Holy Communion Ceremony will take place on Saturday 16th May @ 11.30a.m. in St Luke the Evangelist Church in Mulhuddart for children from St Luke’s N.S..

First Holy Communion is the highlight of the Catholic school year.

Your child, whom you brought into the Catholic Faith through Baptism, now is preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

The Teachers, the Parish Priest and I look forward to working with you and your child in their preparation for the Sacrament Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

A new initiative regarding the preparation of the children for the sacrament is the House Visitation. Fr Seamus has instigated this wonderful initiative. The Parish Council will commence a series of visitations to houses regarding the First Holy Communion Programme commencing on Tuesday 27th January.

Please note on the reverse side of this page a list of significant dates in relation to the preparation of the children for the sacraments.

In the interim I would encourage you to bring your child to the church to attend Mass regularly to acquaint your child with the faith community in preparation for reception of the sacrament. Mass is celebrated in St Luke the Evangelist Church and St Luke’s National School every Sunday.

Dear Parents,

I wrote to you concerning Punctuality and Attendance on the 31st of March 2014. I wish to inform you that there has been an improvement in terms of punctuality at Assembly time. Thank you for making the effort to be regularly punctual.

I am delighted to see this improvement in Morning Assembly. It is important now that we continue with our efforts. Please make sure that children are collected promptly at Afternoon Dismissal time.

This term, I will be continuing to encourage a high attendance in school. Please support us in this endeavour – encouraging your child to attend school when they are healthy enough and avoid non attendance whenever possible.

The New Year Pantomime takes place on Tuesday 13th January in the school. The famous lambert Puppet theatre are providing the pantomime. It is an enjoyable event for the children and a worthwhile educational experience. There is a nominal charge of €2. Please forward the €2 to the class teacher by Monday 12th January 2015.

Road Safety Authority

The R.S.A. publishes an annual road safety report and it indicates that the number of children who died on Irish roads in 2014 has increased by 50%. This is a shocking statistic. Safety, in general, is discussed with the children in school. Please talk to your children about Road Safety and encourage them to walk on the footpaths on the way to school and on the footpaths in the school car park

I would like to thank all our families for their support during the first term of the school academic year 2014 – 2015.

The true spirit of Christmas and the message of Jesus Christ are alive and well in St Luke’sNationalSchool. Numerous donations were made by the families in the school to the St Vincent De Paul hamper collection in St Luke’s The Evangelist parish..

The Christmas Concerts conclude the first term. It is inspirational to see the children participate so wholeheartedly and perform wonderfully on the concert nights. Your attendance on the night encourages and motivates the children. A special word of thanks to all the teachers who have prepared the children.

However, it is your day to day support of the teaching staff, that ensures a strong partnership in education and assists in providing the children with a meaningful and worthwhile long term educational experience.

I am grateful to the Parents’ Association who have dedicated themselves to the school in so many ways throughout the first term. The Halloween and Christmas celebrations were a great success.

School re-opens on Monday 5th January 2015 @ 9.00a.m.

Flood update
(220) Friday, November 14, 2014

Dear Parents,

Many thanks to all the parents & guardians who helped yesterday during difficult weather conditions. We sent advisory texts before hometime to parents in First & Second Classes which were successfully received. However, the messages sent to Third to Sixth classes were not received , for some technical reason.

The school is open as per usual. Last night, a Fingal County Council digger removed debris from a storm drain near the school. This appears to have been the cause of the flooding.

There is no flooding at the Belgree gate this morning. Again, the council removed debris from a drain to relieve the situation.

(219) Thursday, November 13, 2014

Dear Parent,

School is open on Friday 14/11/2014. Flooding may pose a challenge. Do not take any unnecessary chances to attend. A further text will follow at 8am Friday Morning if there is a change.

Belgree Gate Pool of Water
(217) Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Please be advised of a large pool of water at the Belgree Gate entrance to the Park near the school. With recent heavy rain, the children can get their feet wet on the way to school. We contacted Fingal County Council who attempted to remedy the situation , alas , to no avail. Please consider an alternative route for your child until the issue is resolved. Please advise the children to steer clear of any gullies of water near the school as they can become quite full during periods of heavy rain.
