Assembly & Dismissal on Wet Days

Due to the closure of the Hall for Health and Safety Reasons it will be necessary to re-arrange temporarily the assembly and dismissal arrangements for wet assembly and dismissal.

This morning pupils and parents from Junior Infants will be allowed assemble on the corridor outside class rooms

As requested, please see below some notes from the presentations made to the new Junior Infant parents for September 2014.There was a wonderful attendance at last night's meeting. Many thanks to the teachers, Parents Association reps and Tigers reps who turned up last night.

The annual formal Parent/Teacher meetings will take place on Tuesday 11th, Wednesday 13th & Thursday 14th of February 2014. Your child's teacher will allocate a specific date & time for you.

Tyrrelstown Gaelic Football and Hurling Club are currently looking for Boys and Girls aged 4-11 and their parents to join the club and their teams. Join the other 100 children already involved. There is training every Saturday 10-11am beside Tyrrelstown Community Centre. All are welcome.

The school website is getting about 50 hits on average per night with 250 hits recorded 2  nights ago as a result of our promotional push. The site recorded over 130 hits last night. If any parents have any suggestions for our website, please let me know.

Fingal County Council have invited Saint Luke's NS & Tyrrelstown ETNS to partake in a consultation process viv á vis the planning & construction of a new playground in Tyrrelstown Park. I will ask one child from each stream from 1st to 6th classes inclusive to the first planning workshop to be held in our school on 10/2/2014.

This year, Aistear has been introduced in the Junior and Senior Infants classrooms. Aistear is play-based Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and it is designed for children from 0-6 years of age. Some of the children who attended creche or playchool prior to coming to primary school may have had experiences of Aistear before. The children play in different areas in the classroom that are set up by the teacher (e.g. "The Kitchen", "Construction", "Junk Art", "The Doctor's", sand area etc). The children play in a different area each day, and are encouraged to get into role and wholeheartedly participate in each area. The idea of Aistear is to promote oral language development through imagination and play. The children are really enjoying Aistear and love getting into character!

Children from 3^rd class have been participating in dance after school on Wednesdays. Dancing takes place in the hall directly after school until 3.30p.m. The boys and girls have been learning a variety of different styles of dance, from hip-hop and musical theatre to pop and traditional dances. The children are extremely enthusiastic and are having a lot of fun. It is a great way for the children to keep fit and healthy.

Children who are coming to dance should bring extra water and wear their P.E. tracksuit to school with suitable runners.  

We hope to have an end of year show for the parents in June. Watch this space!

Many thanks to Ms. McDonnagh for teaching the Dance Classes. The children love these classes.

Gaelic Football training continues for 5th and 6th class girls on Mondays after school, weather permitting, on Belgree pitch. The school league matches are starting today Tuesday 28th January. The fixtures for the league are as follows:

Tuesday 28th January 3pm - St Luke's N.S. vs Scoil Oilibheir - All weather pitch at Castleknock GAA Club (beside the Castleknock Hotel)

Tuesday 4th February 3pm - St Luke's N.S. vs St Patrick's Diswellstown - All weather pitch at Castleknock GAA Club

Tuesday 11th February - St Luke's N.S. vs Tyrrelstown E.T.N.S. - Belgree Pitch, Tyrrelstown - Time to be confirmed.

All games will go ahead weather permitting.

         Catholic Schools Week 2014

Catholic Schools Week takes place from the 26^th January 2014 to the 2^nd February 2014.

The theme for the week is:

“Catholic Schools Week- Faith in Our Community”

Each class plan to design a specific “ Sacred Space “ in their class room to celebrate the Catholic Schools Week and to hold a prayer service in their own class

Each day has a particular theme as outlined  below:

Please encourage your child to participate wholeheartedly in Catholic Schools Week and to talk to you at home about the events in school.

Bearing in mind the adage “ the family that prays together – stays together “ Catholic Schools Week is the ideal opportunity for the family to offer a prayer together as a family.

Please take the opportunity to visit the Catholic Church, St Luke The Evangelist, during the Catholic Schools Week. Fr Seamus Connell will welcome all with open arms.

Morning Assembly

Junior Infants assemble in the front yard.

Senior Infants – 6^th class assemble in the main yard.

For Health and Safety reasons no parents are allowed into the school building @ assembly time.

Pupils arriving late for school (after 9.00a.m.)

Parents bring pupils who are late for school to the main entrance at the rear of the school.

There will be secretarial services between 8.45a.m. – 9.00a.m. and after 9.30a.m.

There will be no secretarial services between 9.00a.m. – 9.30a.m.

Wet Morning Assembly

An announcement will be made over the School  Intercom System to indicate that it is a wet morning assembly.

A boy & a girl from 5th class were on RTE2 this Tuesday representing our school. The show is called elev8 and on Tuesdays they do a sports quiz between two dublin schools, It featured St.Luke's againts St.Anne's from Shankhill. Jake and Aimee showed great sporting knowledge and teamwork to win 12 points to 9 and go joint top of the overall leaderboard. 5th class also won no homework for Wednesday night on the show as Kismot  displayed fantastic hopping skills to win the 'no homework challenge'. The show is available to watch on RTE Player.

GREEN SCHOOLS

Dear parents,

We are trying to make St Luke's more environmentally friendly. We are trying our best to reduce litter and to recycle more. In order to achieve this it is important that:    

• Every child has a reusable lunch box from today onwards to use everyday.
• Every child brings home their own rubbish in their lunchbox to be put in the bin at home as this is our school policy. Thanks for your help.

We believe it is of great benefit to the children to learn about recycling and reducing waste. We want to make St Luke's a better place for our whole community.

Junior Infant Application & Registration

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Applications for Junior Infants classes have opened for the academic year 2014-2015. This application process is for pupils who will commence in Junior Infants in September 2014.

We request that all parents with children who have not applied for an application form to enrol in St Luke’s N.S. and who wish to be considered for a place in the school would do so immediately.

Please contact the school secretary, 01 8856015, and complete the Pupil Application and Registration Form as soon as possible.

It is urgent that the Application and Registration form be completed at the latest by Friday 31^st January 2014.

An Information Meeting will be held on Monday 3^rd February in the Tyrrelstown Community Centre @ 7.00p.m. for all parents who have completed the Application and Registration Form .

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Monday 3^rd February2014 @ 7.00p.m. - Junior Infant Introductory Meeting.

A meeting for new entrants to Junior Infants will be held in St Luke’s NationalSchoolin the Gym, Tyrrelstown , at 7.00p.m. on Monday 3^rd February 2014. The meeting will last for approximately one hour.

This is an information evening for parents/guardians of children commencing Junior Infants in September 2014. It is a great opportunity for parents/guardians to learn about the school and become acquainted with the educational environment your child will be joining in September 2014. Junior Infant Teachers and the Principal will be  present on the night.

The meeting is intended for parents/guardians only – there is no need for your child to attend.

Please bring €100 to cover the cost of Books etc. An additional €9 is payable for insurance.

Representatives from The Parents Association will attend the meeting to

Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

School closes for Christmas on Friday 20^th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Another year is drawing to a close and Christmas is upon us. The children are truly excited and looking forward to the celebration of Christmas Day.

To celebrate the Birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, Fr Seamus Connell invites you and your family to join him at Mass, in St Luke the Evangelist Church, on:

I would like to thank all our families for their support during the first term of the school academic year 2013 – 2014.

The true spirit of Christmas and the message of Jesus Christ are alive and well in St Luke’s National School. Numerous donations were made by the families in the school to the Philippines Collection held in November & December. In total €484.50 has been donated to a very worthy cause.

The Official Opening of St Luke’s National School was a great success. Many thanks to everyone who took part. The lyrics and melody of the School Anthem will be heard in the parish for many years to come.

The culmination of the first terms work is the Christmas Concert. It is inspirational to see the children participate so wholeheartedly and perform wonderfully on the concert nights. Your attendance on the night encourages and motivates the children

However, it is your day to day support of the teaching staff, that ensures a strong partnership in education and assists in providing the children with a meaningful and worth while long term educational experience.

I am grateful to the Parents’ Association who have dedicated themselves to the school in so many ways throughout the first term. The Halloween and Christmas celebrations were a great success.
