The highlight of the week for the SeniorSchool, 2nd – 6th Class, will be the Mass celebrated by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and concelebrated by Fr Seamus Connell and Fr Eugene Mc Carthy. Presented by UCD Science Expression Festival in collaboration with The Ark. SPARK (Science People at The Ark) is a series of interactive talks that will introduce primary school children to that moment of inspiration which led scientists to follow their interests into a life in science. Promoting engagement based on finding wonder in everyday things, the facilitating scientists will use storytelling, interesting visuals and interactive materials help animate their specialist subjects for the participating children. Must be there at 10am-ark is in temple bar beside pinchos- will last approx 90 minutes Can Maths make Dinner? With Dr Nora Khaldi Dr Nora Khaldi uses mathematics and computers to help understand the molecules in food. Nora will share with the children how her research has helped to make foods that help people to be healthier by communicating healthy signals to our bodies. Plants get sick too With Dr. Angela Feechan Plants can become infected with disease caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi – just like we can! Fungi and other disease in crop plants causes many problems, as it reduces the food supply available to people and animals. Biologist Dr Angela Feechan will help the children to understand how finding and tracking fungal genes can predict future disease outbreaks, helping us to stay one step ahead of diseases that can destroy crops in the farmer’s field. |

Halloween Dress Up & Mid Term Break |

All classes are invited to a “Halloween Dress Up”. The children may wear Halloween costumes etc on Friday 25th October 2013 – there is no need to go to any expense with the costumes – indeed home made costumes can be inexpensive and can be great fun to design & create.
We have invited a Community Garda into the school on Friday to talk to the children about safety at Halloween,
A reminder, the school will close on Friday 25th at 2-40 pm for the mid-term break and reopen on Monday November 4th 2013. |

Scoil Naomh Lucáis Halloween Celebration Féasta na Samhna Halloween Celebration, organised by Parents & Teachers, takes place on Wednesday 23rd October 2013. Children will be brought to a Halloween Celebration room – specially decorated for the celebration. Games will be played. Some treats will be given to the children – please confirm with the class teacher if your child has any allergy – especially to any food. Each child will be given a selection of fruit – courtesy of Superquinn All classes are invited to a “Halloween Dress Up”.
