Active Week 2024

Active School Week

Active Week 2024 was a fantastic week for everyone in St. Luke’s. We kicked the week off with a Wake Up Shake Up dance session on yard. We had so many fun activities to enjoy during the week in the hall like Taekwondo with Frank, Dance with Ms Rooney, Afrodance with Alessandra, Boot camp with Ms Dolphin, Tennis lessons with Yan.

We had two fun filled Sport’s Days on Thursday and Friday. Teachers took on the students on Tuesday in a dodgeball match cheered on by their students. The 6th class enjoyed a water fight on yard in the sunshine. The ice-cream man came to visit to the children’s delight on Thursday. The infants enjoyed a Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the Park and a bubble disco on yard. The 5th and 6th class playground leaders led activities such as alphabet athletics, boot camp and hula hoop challenges on yard.

Mr Bruen retained his title as fastest male teacher in the Teacher’s Race on Thursday and Ms Cullinan regained her title as fastest female teacher cheered on by their students. Ms Dolphin ran a basketball league with the 6th classes on the yard with Ms Kilcommin’s class coming out as champions. Many classes also enjoyed active breaks in the classroom, Active Homework and trips to the playground to keep active during the week.

A big thank you to all the teachers and students who put in a huge amount of work to make the week so memorable for everyone. The week was one of the highlights of the 2023/2024 academic year.

Dodgeball

The teachers challenged the 6th class children to a game of Dodgeball on Tuesday afternoon. Final results were a very respectable draw for both sides. All the children had great fun cheering on their teacher.

Wake Up Shake Up

Wake Up Shake Up

The whole school kicked off Active Week with a Wake Up Shake Up on Monday morning on yard. They danced to lots of their favourite tunes such as the Macarena, Cha Cha slide and Rock the Boat led by the 5th and 6th class students. The 2nd class surprised us with their amazing flash mob dance to Dance the Night Away. Girls from Ms Jordan’s class amazed us with their gymnastics skills to Lush Life.

Tae Kwondo Club

Tyrrelstown Tae Kwondo

Frank from Tyrrelstown Tae Kwondo club kindly offered his time to come in and give some of the classes some taster sessions. For most children it was their first time to try out the martial art. He worked with Ms Quinn, Mr Molloy, Mr Costello and Ms Kilcommins classes. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. Thanks again Frank.

Tae Kwondo is a Korean martial art. It not only teaches offensive techniques and self defence skills, but is also fantastic for building body awareness, strength, fitness, discipline and confidence in children.

If you would like to learn more about joining the Tyrrelstown club where they offer weekly sessions for children and teenagers please follow the below link: Martial Arts Taekwondo
